With ski season coming up soon, I know all you skiers are just itching to hit the slopes. Some of you may be itching for new ski equipment as well- If you’re anything like me, last year’s gear is all battered up from extensive wear and tear, you may be in the market for some great new ski digs! I recently came across this article which features the best ski gear for this season, all tested by skiers who spent a week using it at Snowbird Mountain. Some of it isn’t the cheapest, but you’re paying it to last, so it’ll be worth every penny.
The Dakine Chute Pack was first on the list, a backpack designed to withstand the elements and any major wipeouts that may occur while skiing. For those of you looking for maximum mountain time and minimal stops, carrying a backpack will make frequent lodge stops unnecessary. Definitely check out this backpack this season!
One thing that all skiers need- a jacket. For out-west skiers, we all know how warm it can be while skiing- sometimes that heavy, insulated jacket is just too much. The Helly Hanson Odin Jacket is perfect for these types of days. The jacket is completely waterproof and offers a light layer of insulation. There’s also ventilation incorporated into the jacket, making it even more ideal for the warm weather days. In the cold weather it makes for a great layer under a heavier jacket.
Safety while skiing is extremely important- even more so when skiing bigger mountains and more advanced terrain. The POC Fornix Helmet and Retina Big Goggle are key pieces to safe skiing. The helmet will make falling much less treacherous, and the goggles are specially designed with high visibility, so when you’re out there and it is snowing sideways, you can still navigate the slopes (and avoid crashing into fellow skiers) effectively. As far as ski style goes, there’s not much to complain about with either of these as well!
A piece of gear I know I will be investing in this season is the Powerlock Multitool by SOG. This nifty 
device has got every tool you need- 17 total- that can be of assistance while skiing. From adjusting a ski to cutting branches to opening bottles, this tool really has got it all. With this thing in my back pocket, I know I can handle any issues I may come across on the slopes.
